Sapphire - Years 3&4
13th February
Happy Half Term!
We've had an amazing week this week writing instructions for how to defeat an evil witch, exploring how magnets attract metals, using watercolours to create reflections in Art and enjoying our first Chance to Shine cricket session.
Everyone has worked incredibly hard this term, enjoy a well earned and hopefully restful break!
6th February
1 week to go! Everyone has worked so hard this week, I'm very proud of you all. We found column subtraction quite tricky at the start of the week but everone has put a lot of effort into our lessons and the confidence is amazing! Next week we'll be planning how to defeat a witch in English and don't forget about the vocab test in French.
30th January
Well done again for another fantastic week! The poetry Competition finals yesterday were amazing, we were all blown away by the amount of creativity and effort on show. Well done to you all!
Everyone is still enjoying our whole class violin lessons too, everyone looks forward to the lessons.

Less than 1 week to go until the auditions for our Poetry Competition! Don't forget to practise your performance and we'll be doing them in Thurday's English lesson.
Well done Year 3 on tackling some tricky fractions this week and Year 4 for finishing learning all our times tables!
9th January
Welcome back to a new term! We've had a great week getting stuck into our new learning, including Iron Age Britain, how mountains are formed and forces.
We were also introduced to our new books for Reading and English which are The Explorer by Katherine Rundell and The Lost Happy Endings by Carol Ann Duffy.
12th December
We've had a busy time full of exciting things the past couple of weeks! Everyone enjoyed our trip to the cinema to see Lilo and Stich last Friday and we've had lots of fun practising for our Carol Concert this week. Everyone is very excited for our final performance on Monday!
21st November
Well done on another fantastic couple of weeks, we even managed to fill up our class gem jar today due to fantastic behaviour in our Maths lesson! In English we have been starting to plan and write our persuasive pieces of writing and had a great debate on why you should or shouldn't take the opportunity to visit the Stone Age.
We've also been thinking about ourselves and our cultures, drawing self-portraits in Art and have been starting to practice our lovely Christmas Carols too!
7th November
We've had an amazing first week back, doing lots of fun things like going to Forest School on Monday, learning about persuasive writing, times tables and doing some Stone Age inspired Art with both paint and charcoal!

What a lovely Harvest festival we had this morning! Everyone did so well and a special well done to everyone in Sapphire class for performing our poem so well.
You've also done very well in writing out your stories in English this week, I'm looking forward to reading the final results next week.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Harvest Song
1 There is a farmer who stands in his fields,
And he sees all the work to be done.
He has been watching for many a month,
He’s been waiting for this day to come.
CHORUS
There’s a song to sing as the harvest comes in,
To the One who gives sunshine and rain.
Let us all join in with a thank-off ering
For the harvest that’s gathered again.
2 There was a time when the fields were prepared,
And the good soil was carefully ploughed.
Then came the day for the farmer to sow
And the seeds were all scattered around.
CHORUS
3 There was some time for the farmer to wait
As the seeds slowly grew out of sight.
Then came the day when the first shoots appeared,
And the farmer was fi lled with delight.
CHORUS
4 Now is the time when the crops are full grown,
And the farmer must gather them in.
He’ll need some help ’cause there’s lots to be done,
And it’s hard to know where to begin.
CHORUS x 2

We've had a great time this week diving into our new book 'Leon and the Place Between' in English, they Year 4s have been smashing rounding in Maths and we've been exploring how we know so much about Stone Age times in History.
For those of you who are interested, the Reading part of our curriculum pages now has a link to a good website with recommendations for good books for each year group. I've included it here as well in case you want to have a look!

Well done on another fantastic week! I am very impressed with all the hard work I've seen, especially in our English lessons where we have started to plan and write some lines for our sunset poems - everyone has been so creative!
Make sure you have a look at our homework page for the updates on a couple of small changes we've made, I will also be adding dates to the homework pages so it is easier to see which homework matches which week.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

We've all had a great first full week back to school, I'm very impressed with how well the new Y3s have all settled in and the Y4s have been a great help, being kind and showing them the ropes!
We also had a great computing lesson this week, starting to use Scratch and doing some programming.
