This week in Ruby Class;

Friday 18th September 2026

The children have had a very busy week again in Ruby Class. In Drawing Club this week we have been looking at the story 'The Colour Monster'. 

The children made some amazing mixed-up monsters of their own. 

We have started to introduce GPC's this week, with the children learning s, a, t and p. We have sent home a Phonic and a Handwriting folder with activities for you to support your child with at home. Please ensure these folders are in your child's school bag each day so we can add to the resources regularly. If you have any questions or are unsure of what to do with the resources in the files, please do not hesitate to come and see me.

What a fantastic first full week we have had! 🌟

The children have all done so well and have coped magnificently with their first full week of school. We are incredibly proud of how confidently they have settled into our classroom routines and how well they are beginning to get to know their new friends and adults. There have been lots of new experiences, learning opportunities, smiles and laughter along the way! 

In Drawing Club this week we have been reading the story of The Three Little Pigs. We have been exploring the vocabulary construct, sturdy, flimsy, obliterate, scarper and celebrate.

The children were challenged to build houses out of different materials for the pigs. Once completed, the Big Bad Wolf attempted to blow the houses down! We discovered that Ruby Class are champion builders and the wolf failed in its attempts to get the pigs! We also got creative and made junk brick houses which we think look fantastic.

Thank you to those of you who have sent in your baby photos and History homework. The children always enjoy looking at how toys and TV shows have changed since their parents and grandparents were young, along with reading some of their favourite stories.

A very warm welcome to Ruby Class! It was lovely to welcome the new children and their families on Thursday. We are happy to say that the children already appear to be settling in very well, and I am sure we are going to have a lot of fun learning together this year. 

This term our topic will be 'Marvellous Me'. We will be learning about our emotions, our senses, what makes us special and how we have changed over time. You will have received a topic letter sent home on Friday. It would be wonderful if you could help your child by collecting information about the different books, toys and television programed you, and wider members of your family, enjoyed when they were young. Every time I have done this previously, the children have very much enjoyed finding out about the changes within living memory. Additionally, you have been asked to provide photos of your child; one at birth and then one for each year since birth. They will be used by the children to make their own timelines, another activity that is always enjoyed and sparks lots of discussions. 

Mrs Kirby and I are really looking forward to working in partnership with you this year. Have a lovely weekend. We look forward to seeing you on Monday when the children will be attending school full-time.
