This year, I have given out specific spelling lists to individual pupils or I have asked the children to start learning the spellings on the 'grouped spellings list' (see list below).
The aim is to learn a column (from the grouped spellings list document) every big term or half a column every half term.
Therefore, the first column should be learned by Christmas to be tested after Christmas. Then the second column by Easter. Lastly, the third column by the Summer holidays.
There will be a big spelling test at the start of every half term to help the children see how they’re getting on with the Year 5/6 spellings. The spellings for those tests will be mostly those asked to learn with other words in too.
If your child is confident with these spellings and can apply them in their writing, then this will give them the opportunity to learn new words that they want to learn.
